What Are Your Thoughts On New Right Of Conscience Rule?

This article has been read 7 times

Washington (dbTechno) - The Bush administration passed a new law to help protect health care workers known as the “right of conscience” rule, and we want to hear about your thoughts on it.

The idea behind this new rule is to protect health care workers and give them the right to refuse to take part in certain procedures.

These procedures could be anything from abortions, issuing birth control, etc.

If they do not want to take part in these procedures, they have the right to opt out if they do not morally want to perform them.

This applies for any health care worker with a “reasonable” connection to the procedure, and includes those who prepare before the procedure, clean-up after, etc.

Health care organizations need to followe the October 1, 2009 deadline to give written confirmation they have complied with the rule, or lose previously issued federal funding, and future federal funding.

This new “right of conscience” rule will go into effect January 18, 2009.

There is no word yet as to whether or not President-elect Barack Obama and his administration will revise it.

We want to hear your thoughts on this controversial new ruling though, so let us know what you think!
