Adoption Resource Exchange for Single Parents, Inc. (ARESP)

A nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to help single people adopt special needs children. ARESP provides direct services to the Washington area but also serves single adults nationwide, and is a member of the North American Council on Adoptable Children, Adoption Exchange Association, Adoptive Families of America, and Families Adopting Children Everywhere.

The group advocates and promotes the adoption of older and special needs children in the foster care system while supporting the rights of single adoptive and foster parents. The organization assists in the process of adoption, the home study process, and the search for waiting children. It maintains listings and profiles of waiting children and gathers resources to be made available to prospective parents.

ARESP operates an Adoption Help Line, publishes a quarterly newsletter, offers seminars for prospective adoptive parents, conducts workshops at major adoption conferences, and helps prospective parents search for children. The organization believes that every child has a right to a loving and caring home, and any person willing to give a child love and support should be considered a prospective adoptive parent regardless of age, sex, race or ethnicity, creed, marital status, or sexual orientation.
